Brooklyn Bridge. Computer artwork showing the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City, USA. This suspension bridge passes over the East River between the suburbs of Manhattan and Brooklyn. The bridge is 2065 metres long, of which its central span is 486 m, and its deck is an average of 41 m above the water. When the bridge was opened on 24th May 1883, it was the world's longest suspension bridge (a record it no longer holds). The bridge was designed by the American John Augustus Roebling and its construction was begun by his son, Washington Augustus Roebling, in 1869.
