Artisan miner at the opening of a mine shaft. This shaft leads to a mine that was shut in the 1960s. It is now used by artisan miners who extract the small deposits of gold that were left. The green deposits are malachite, a copper carbonate hydroxide mineral. Photographed in Macalder, Kenya.
