Paramyxovirus particles. Computer artwork of a paramyxovirus particles (virions). This family of RNA (ribonucleic acid) viruses is responsible for a number of human and animal diseases, including measles and mumps. Each virion is surrounded by a lipid envelope (spheres) with glycoproteins (sticks) embedded in its surface. These surface proteins are used for recognising and binding to the host cell.
