Hawthorn hedgerow in winter. Hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna) is a plant that is native to Europe, north-western Africa and western Asia. It flowers in spring, but also produces its fruit (called haws) in winter as well. It is commonly used, as here, to form hedgerows, which form an important habitat for many rural wildlife species of animals and plants. Photographed in winter, in the UK.
