Sample of the element selenium (Se) rotating. Selenium has the atomic number 34, and is a non-metal that exhibits allotropy, being found as either a red amorphous solid, or this grey crystalline form. It is used in the vulcanisation of rubber, the manufacture of red glass, in electronics, and in xerography (electrophotography, photocopying). Although toxic in high doses, it is an essential micronutrient for health.
