Sample of the element antimony (Sb) rotating in a watch glass. Antimony has the atomic number 51, and is a soft grey metalloid. It has a long history of use by humans, and its use as a cosmetic in Ancient Egypt has been dated to before 3000 BCE. In modern times, it is mainly used in flame retardants and as an alloying agent with lead.
