Sample of the element molybdenum (Mo). Molybdenum has the atomic number 42, and is a hard, silvery-white transition metal. It has the fifth-highest melting point of any elemental metal, at 2623 degrees Celsius, and as such is used in alloys where the metal will be exposed to intense heat.
