Glow-in-the-dark bracelets. Glow bracelets are single-use, see-through, plastic tubes containing isolated chemicals. When combined, light is produced through a chemical reaction-induced chemiluminescence. Glow bracelets contain a mixture of a fluorescent dye, an oxalate ester and a glass vial containing an activator (hydrogen peroxide). By squeezing and breaking the glass, the activator mixes with the ester. The ester is oxidized, producing phenol and peroxyacid. The peroxyacid decomposes spontaneously, releasing energy that excites the dye, which then de-excites by producing light. The wavelength and therefore colour of the emitted light depends on the dye.
