Human facial muscles. Artwork of the facial and other muscles of a human head and neck, seen from an oblique frontal angle. The complex arrangement of muscles on and around the cheeks, lips and eyes allow the extensive facial expressions that are an important part of non-verbal communication in humans. Other muscles radiate outwards around the ear (the ear and temporal muscles), and the scalp muscles form lines running over the top of the head. At right of the ear, running diagonally from the corner of the eye to the back of the lower jaw, is the large and powerful jaw muscle.
