This is an artistâs impression of a possible Earth of the future. The polar caps have melted, and sea levels have risen around the globe by tens of metres, engulfing entire cities along coastal regions. In this particular view, we see the African and European continents. Europe has been devastated, with virtually all of the eastern half now under water, including much of Russia. Of the British Isles, only the western half of Britain and the southwestern tip of Ireland remain above sea level.
