Polyethylene pipe insulation. Coloured scanning electron micrograph of polyethylene pipe insulation for climate control of water pipes. This insulation is used widely in the building trade to protect water pipes from freezing, condensation and limit heat loss. This aids conservation of fuel and saves power. It has a thermal conductivity of 0.034 W/mK at zero degrees centigrade and is compliant with Part L of building regulations and meets W35 water regulations. Magnification x164 (x40 at 10cm wide).
