Robotic prostate cancer surgery. Surgeon holding a surgical tool used by a Da Vinci robot surgeon, during surgery to remove a carcinoma (cancer) from the prostate gland of a patient. Da Vinci is a remote controlled surgical system, developed and produced by the US company Intuitive Surgical. It has four robotic arms that carry tools specific to the operation and other more general surgical implements for procedures such as suturing (stitching) and clamping. A specially trained surgeon operates the system from an ergonomically designed console (left) using remote joysticks with force-feedback.
