Calmodulin protein, molecular model. Animation showing the molecular structure of the protein calmodulin (CaM, calcium-modulated protein). This protein plays a crucial role in mediating calcium-induced processes in cells. It binds to calcium ions, and then in turn binds to other proteins. The process activated depends on the protein to which it binds. Calmodulin contains 148 amino acids, which contain carbon, nitrogen, oxygen and hydrogen atoms (colour-coded here). This clip is part of a sequence showing cellular protein interactions. For the entire sequence, see clips K003/3837 to K003/3831.
