Caption

Timelapse footage of the stars of Orion rising over Thamserku mountain, in the Sagarmatha National Park, Nepal. This park is a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site. At the start of the clip, the bright orange star Betelgeuse (Alpha Orionis) rises at left, with the bright blue star Rigel (Beta Orionis) at right. The three stars of Orion's Belt rise above the peak soon afterwards, with the pink Orion Nebula to their right. As Orion rises in the east, the Moon sets out of view behind the camera, plunging Thamserku into darkness. The peak of Mount Thamserku is 6623 metres above sea level. This footage was shot at an altitude of 3600 metres, in November 2009.
