Meningococcal swab. Nurse rubbing a swab from a patient's moth onto an agar plate. The plate will be incubated to allow any bacteria present to grow. This test will show if the patient is a carrier of Neisseria meningitidis bacteria. N. meningitidis can cause meningococcal meningitis (swelling of the membranes surrounding the brain) and meningococcaemia (blood poisoning), both of which can be fatal.
Model release available. Property release not required.
