Nucleic acid isolation resin. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) showing the structure of a silica (silicon dioxide) resin from a spin column, used in genetic research to isolate nucleic acids - either ribonucleic acid (RNA), or deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA). This resin selectively binds to either the DNA or RNA depending on the conditions and other factors influenced by the extraction method. Magnification: x125 when printed 10 cm wide.
