River delta. Artwork of the land formation known as a delta, consisting of sediments deposited at the mouth of a river. These sediments, carried downstream by the river, originated as material eroded from land and mountains inland. As the river reaches an alluvial plain or the coast, it slows and deposits its sediments to form new land.
