Sand dunes. Artwork of sand dunes used to demonstrate cross-bedding. This is where tilting in rock strata occurs as part of the original sedimentary deposition process, rather than from deformation after the layers formed. Sand dunes are an example of a surface where such deposition occurs, usually due to fluid flow (water or wind).
