Caption

Cat flea head. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the head of cat flea (Ctenocephalides felis). Its eyes (red) can be seen at either side of its head. The two antennae-like structures (centre) are sensory palps, and below these are the mandibles, which are used to pierce the host's skin and suck blood. Fleas usually only remain on the host whilst feeding. Magnification: x84 when printed 10 centimetres wide.
