Male pelvic floor. Computer artwork showing muscles of the pelvic floor. The front of the pelvis is at top. The large triangular muscles at the front of the pelvis is the deep transverse perineal muscle. The superficial transverse perineal muscle, is the thin strip that passes in front of the anal opening (hole at centre). Surrounding the anal opening is the puborectalis muscle. The muscle on either side of the coccyx (tailbone, bottom centre) is the coccygeus muscle. The pelvic floor provides support to the pelvic organs and maintains continence as part of the anal and urinary sphincters.
