Intensive horticulture of tomatoes, aubergines, peppers and courgettes near the town of Pachino in the coastal area of south-eastern Sicily. It is particularly famous for the Pomodori di Pachino (IGP) considered to be the best Italian tomatoes. Their quality is accredited to the coastal micro-climate and the salinity of the irrigation. The protective covers of the tunnels are removed in the summer.
