Caption

Students observing a test of a device attempting to create 3D ultrasound images. To achieve a 3D image, the transducer sends sound waves from several directions and detects them. A sophisticated computer system reconstructs the data as a 3D image. The first such device was invented in the USA in 1987, with others quickly being built all over the world. This device was photographed at the First Moscow Medical Institute, Russia, in 1987.
