Gallstone surgery. Surgeons performing surgery to remove a patient's gallstones. Gallstones (choleliths) are most commonly hard deposits of cholesterol that form due to an imbalance between bile and cholesterol levels. They are usually symptomless, unless one obstructs the bile duct, causing acute pain, jaundice and infection.
