Sigmoid colon diverticula. Endoscopic view of diverticula (sac-like outpouchings, centre and lower left) in the wall of the sigmoid colon. The true lumen (passageway) of the colon is at upper left. The sigmoid colon (pelvic colon) is the part of the large intestine that is closest to the rectum and anus. Diverticula such as this generally cause no symptoms and rarely have to be treated.
