Cervical intraepithelial neoplasia. Endoscopic view of the cervix of a woman with Grade 3 (severe) cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN 3), showing localised congestion in the lesion. This condition, also known as cervical dysplasia and cervical interstitial neoplasia, is the potentially premalignant transformation and abnormal growth (dysplasia) of squamous cells on the surface of the cervix. CIN is not cancer and is usually curable, with most cases clearing up without intervention. However, a small number of cases progress to become cervical cancer if left untreated.
