Pneumocystis pneumonia. Coloured computed tomography (CT) scan of an axial section through the chest of a male patient with pneumocystis pneumonia (PCP, or pneumocystosis). PCP is a form of pneumonia, caused by the yeast-like fungus Pneumocystis jirovecii (Pneumocystis carinii). Pneumonia is an inflammatory condition of the lung that primarily affects the microscopic air sacs known as alveoli.
