John Hutchinson, zoologist, preparing a giraffe leg for the computer tomography (CT) scanner. Hutchinson is Professor of evolutionary biomechanics at the Royal Veterinary College, UK. He keeps many animal and bird specimens at a temperature of -20 degrees Celsius for research on animal locomotion. He is author a numerous animal locomotion papers. In 2011 he published a paper asserting that a small bony growth found on elephant feet was actually a sixth toe that helped provide additional support. All the animals were donated by zoos where they died naturally. Photographed in 2012.
