Liver surgery. Close-up of a syringe of activated thrombin being applied to a cut liver surface during liver surgery. This surgery is being carried out on a 55-year-old man with obstructive jaundice and a suspected liver malignancy. The activated thrombin produced haemostasis (stemming of bleeding). Subsequent histological inspection showed chronic inflammation only, with no malignancy.
