Bacteriophage RNA. Molecular model showing the structure of a loop of the genetic material RNA (ribonucleic acid) from a bacteriophage. Bacteriophages are viruses that infect bacteria. This RNA is from the bacteriophage's prohead (the immature viral capsid). The prohead is a precursor stage to the packaging of the genetic material that the virus transmits when infecting its host. This pentameric (5-sided) model is prohead RNA from the bacteriophage phi29, which infects Bacillus bacteria.
