Sodium reacting with water. Chemical reaction between sodium (Na) metal and water (H2O). The reaction gives off hydrogen (H2) gas, which is burnt off by the heat of the reaction, and produces a solution of sodium hydroxide (NaOH), a strong alkali. The equation for this reaction is: 2Na + 2H20 ----> 2NaOH + H2.
