Oscar Pistorius (born 1986), South African athlete and double amputee, running in the heats of the 4 x 400 meters relay race at the 2011 Athletics World Championships. Pistorius was born without fibula bones (calf bones) and had both legs amputated below the knee at 11 month old. He runs on carbon fibre blades. In 2012 he became the first amputee to participate in the Olympics, when he raced in the men's 400 metres and the 4 x 400 metres relay. Photographed in Daegu, South Korea on the 1st September 2011.
