Adult honeybee (Apis mellifera) in process of eating its way out of honeycomb cell as other adults tend to cells around it. Cell at bottom left has been opened by adults to reveal dead or dying pupa. Honeybees undergo complete metamorphosis, a process which includes four stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult, the latter emerging from a honeycomb cell.
