Female Macleays spectre (Extatosoma tiaratum), sometimes called the giant prickly pear stick insect, hanging from branch. These large insects can reach lengths of 20 cm and are indigenous to Australia and New Guinea. This adult female is covered with thorn-like spikes used for defense and camouflage.
