Abdominal muscle layers. Artwork of two views of an axial section through the abdominal muscles, with the front of the body at bottom. At centre in both views are the rectus abdominis muscles that together form what is commonly known as the 'six pack' in well-defined abdominal muscles. Either side in both views (at far left and far right) are three muscle layers. From outer to inner, these are the abdominal external oblique, the abdominal internal oblique, and the transversus abdominis. The white areas are fibrous connective tissues, and the orange line is the peritoneum, the membrane lining the abdominal cavity.
