Female reproductive system. Artwork of the uterus (centre) and the two ovaries and fallopian tubes either side. These are the central organs of the female reproductive system. Eggs (female sex cells) produced by the ovaries travel along the adjacent fallopian tube to the uterus, where if fertilised it can embed and develop into a foetus during pregnancy. The upper part of the vagina (birth canal) is at bottom. The cutaway view (right) shows internal structure, including developing eggs in the ovary. Blood vessels (red and blue) and ligaments and membranes are at left.
