Cerebellum, artwork. This brain structure controls functions such as balance and posture. Like the rest of the brain, it is divided into two hemispheres (right and left), with the medial region (centre) connecting these hemispheres known as the cerebellar vermis. The cerebellum is found at the rear base of the brain. It is a continuous layer of nerve tissue, folded tightly to form the compressed structure shown here.
