Scapula. Artwork of a frontal view of the right-hand scapula (shoulder blade), one of the bones of the back and shoulder. This bone articulates with the head of the humerus (not shown) at left, forming a ball-and-socket joint. The surface of the glenoid fossa is partially seen, with cartilage (blue) present. The bony protrusions (processes) at upper left are the acromion (far left) and coracoid process (to its right). The main part of this ventral surface is the subscapular fossa, the a broad attachment point for the subscapularis muscle. For views of the scapula from the front, side and rear, see images C010/7129 to C010/7131.
