Islet of Langerhans. Light micrograph of a section through tissue from the pancreas, showing an islet of Langerhans (centre). This structure is composed of clumps of secretory cells. The main secretions from these cells are the hormones glucagon and insulin, which control blood sugar. The cells surrounding the islet form sac-like structures called acini, and secrete digestive enzymes.
