Computer graphics space-filling representation of a molecule of trinitrotoluene (TNT), a powerful explosive. A molecule loaded with either nitro- (NO2) or nitrate (NO3) groups becomes highly explosive. TNT possesses three nitro- groups arranged around the benzene ring structure of toluene (methyl benzene). Colour coding: carbon atoms in green, oxygen atoms in red, nitrogen atoms in blue, and hydrogen atoms in white. Modelled by Chemical Design's Chem-X software.
