Caption

Animal space research. Soviet capsule designed to carry animals into space seen after it has landed. Apparently in the foreground is a dog named Modnitsa ('Fashionable') that was carried on the flight, although the quality of the image suggests the image of the dog may have been added at a later date. A total of twenty dogs were flown on fifteen sub-orbital spaceflights between 1951 and 1956 with varying degrees of success.
