The Nobel Prizes are leading awards made annually for outstanding cultural and scientific advances. Established in 1901, they are awarded in Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Literature, and Peace. The Nobel Prize in Economics was established separately in 1968. Up to 2011, there had been 44 Nobel Prizes awarded to women, and over 800 to men.
