Like modern dentist chairs, this one was designed to swivel and tilt to allow the dentist to examine the patient's teeth. At right is a foot-operated pedal usually used to operated a dental drill. Water pipes and plumbing are at left. This motor chair, with an electric motor and hydraulic lift, is from the 1960s. Models similar to this were first introduced in the 1930s by companies such as the Ritter Dental Manufacturing Company.
