House sparrow. Male house sparrow (Passer domesticus) on a branch. House sparrows are primarily seed eaters but they also eat worms, fruit and kitchen scraps, enabling them to prosper in many urban environments. Males have black on the throat, upper breast and between the bill and eyes, whereas the females do not. Photographed in Dorset, UK, in January.
