Golgi apparatus of a cell. Transmission Electron Micrograph (TEM) of the golgi body, nuclear membrane & mitochondria of a HeLa cell. At right are narrow, elongated, membrane-bound structures of the golgi body with small rounded vesicles. Glycoproteins processed in the golgi body are formed into vesicles which can then be transported across the cell cytoplasm. At top left is granular material of the nucleus, bounded by a dark nuclear membrane. At lower left, two large round mito- chondria are seen; they are sites of respiration and energy synthesis in the cell. HeLa cells are cultured human cancer cells. Magnification: x34,250 at 8x10 inch size.
