Polikarpov I-15. Forward three-quarter view of the Soviet Polikarpov TsKB-3, the prototype of the I-15 biplane fighter. The type first flew in 1933, and was produced in 1934-37. Over 3,300 were built. It was well armed with two 12.7mm and four 7.62mm machine guns and had very good manoeuvrability. It was used to good effect in combat in China, Mongolia and the Spanish Civil War. By the late 1930s it was being outclassed by monoplane fighters and by 1942 was withdrawn from front-line service.
