Caption

Vitamin B12 transport protein, molecular model. This transmembrane protein, known as BTUB, is from the Escherichia coli bacterium. It allows active transport of vitamin B12 (cobalamin) across the outer membrane of the bacterial cell. This process explains how E. coli in human intestines can affect the uptake of vitamin B12.
