Normal mammogram. Coloured X-ray of the left breast (mammogram) of a 27 year old patient. Mammography is an X-ray technique that reveals fine details of internal breast tissues. It is mainly used in the early detection of breast tumours, whether they are benign lumps, cysts or malignant cancer. If a tumour is found on the mammogram, other diagnostic techniques are used to determine if it is cancerous or not.
