SPHINX instrument assembly. Technician assembling and adjusting the sensor of a SPHINX instrument from the MIPAS (Michelson Interferometer for Passive Atmospheric Sounding) device of the ESA's (European Space Agency) Envisat environmental satellite. MIPAS (Michelson Interferometer for Passive Atmospheric Sounding) is a Fourier transforming infrared spectrometer that provides pressure and temperature profiles, and profiles of trace gases nitrogen dioxide, nitrous oxide, methane, nitric acid, ozone, and water in the stratosphere.
