SPHINX instrument assembly. Technician performing the final preparations of the SPHINX instrument on the MIPAS (Michelson Interferometer for Passive Atmospheric Sounding) device of the ESA's (European Space Agency) Envisat environmental satellite. MIPAS (Michelson Interferometer for Passive Atmospheric Sounding) is a Fourier transforming infrared spectrometer that provides pressure and temperature profiles, and profiles of trace gases nitrogen dioxide, nitrous oxide, methane, nitric acid, ozone, and water in the stratosphere.
