Tenement museum kitchen display. The stove, irons, and gas light (far left) are typical of a late 19th-century to early 20th-century kitchen before the advent of electrical lighting and appliances. This display is at 97 Orchard Street, now the Tenement Museum, New York City, USA. Built on Manhattan's Lower East Side in 1863, this tenement apartment building was home to nearly 7000 working class immigrants. Photographed in 1998.
